What is "Piercing the Veil?"
"Piercing the veil" is a phrase most often applied in a corporate law context. One of the main reasons people form corporations is to limit their personal liability as they separate themselves and their personal assets from those owned by the corporation. This separation, an accepted "fiction" in the realm of corporate law, demands certain corporate formalities. When creditors "pierce the veil" of a corporation, they break through the protection offered by this "legal fiction" by demonstrating that the formalities governing the division between personal assets and corporate assets have not been followed - at which point a person's individual wealth is fair game in a creditor's law suit.
In other words, a creditor can pierce the corporate veil to get at the heart of a corporation (its people).
The theme of "seeing" with the eyes of our hearts echos throughout scripture (e.g., Eph. 1:18). We're invited on a journey; the further along we get the clearer we perceive the environment in which we live, the person we truly are, and the bigger picture of what God is up to in the midst of it all. Clouding our vision on this journey is a veil caused by unbelief, wrong beliefs, and a fear of truly being known. The Evil One goes to great lengths to maintain this veil. Our Enemy's goal is to keep our focus on what our physical eyes can see as he attempts to blind the eyes of our hearts. Why? Living without eyes to see the far more important spiritual realm leads us to misinterpret our lives...making it almost impossible to walk on the Path to Life.
Christ wants to pierce this veil. He wants to heal our unbelief. He seeks to rescue us from fear and to press inward to our hearts - to the true person.
Our desire is to help others in this journey of seeing and to point toward mileposts along the way; common markers pointing toward freedom in Christ. Creditors attempt to pierce the corporate veil in pursuit of monetary damages. Piercing this veil - one of deception and unbelief - leads to the riches of God's kingdom and the promise of authentic Life.
